Love on a High: Our 2nd Anniversary Trek to Everest Base Camp

A crisp, frosty morning greeted us as we awoke. The overnight snowfall had blanketed the landscape in a pristine layer of white. In the distance, the sun’s gentle rays caressed the mountains, casting a mesmerizing blend of saffron, vermilion, and yellow hues upon the black, brown, and white canvas. This breathtaking panorama captivated us with its irresistible allure. Rising before dawn, we eagerly embraced the companionship of the snowcapped peaks and embarked on our journey across the freshly fallen snow. We experienced this mesmerizing vista on our 2nd-anniversary trek to the Everest Base Camp.

Now, imagine traveling 12 years back in time to this moment. Our footsteps had been treading in the mountains for over a week, but the journey we embarked upon that day was undoubtedly the most memorable. It was as if we had entered another world, surrounded by towering peaks on both sides. The mountains behind us seemed to walk alongside, their protective presence ensuring our safety in the unfamiliar terrain. As we ascended a cliff, one set of peaks bid us farewell, only to be replaced by another set, continuing their watchful guidance. This pattern persisted until we reached our destination – a place 5,360 meters above sea level, nestled at the foothills of the world’s tallest mountain.

April 27, 2011 – 2nd wedding anniversary

My wife Anu and I had long harbored a desire to visit Everest Base Camp. It had lingered on our minds for quite some time, and we finally chose April 2011 to celebrate two years of marital bliss. To mark the occasion, 27 well-wishers accompanied us on this unforgettable journey. It took a year’s worth of meticulous planning to make this dream a reality.

Today, 12 years later, I want to take you on the same journey (virtually through my blog). So join me in celebrating our 14th anniversary on the Trek to Everest Base Camp, as we relive this unforgettable adventure together, right from the comfort of your own home.
